FAQ

DRYERS

Usually, a dryer can dry a full load of laundry in less than 45 minutes. If the load is still damp at the end of the cycle, the venting system is likely clogged. Clean the venting system and if you are still having problems, call us!

Yes, if you restrict the air flow it can be very dangerous. Be sure to clean it after each load.

Dryers can be big energy hogs, but you can reduce the consumption by following a couple of simple rules.
First, make sure you aren’t overloading your dryer. Follow the owner’s manual for instructions on load sizes for your particular model.
Second, make sure to clean out the lint filter after every load and once per year make sure to clean out the entire venting system.
Third, pay attention to drying times so that you’ll know when there is a problem.

Liquid fabric softener does a noticeably better job softening fabric and reducing static cling than softener sheets. Softener sheets also leave a residue that may clog the dryer’s lint filter screen. If you have residue build-up, you can remove the residue using a small amount of laundry detergent and a soft-bristle brush and a cotton ball doused with a small amount of rubbing alcohol. Make sure the filter is completely dry before placing it back in the filter chute.

Softener sheets have been known to find their way into the lint filter chute, within the dryer’s interior and within the vents –attracting lint and leading to buildup.

Yes, your dryer and all other appliances will perform at their best if they are properly set up. If a dryer is not level, it can cause parts and components to wear out before their time.

WASHING MACHINES

If the door won’t latch, the door lock assembly might be defective. These are normally made of plastic and cannot be repaired. If the door won’t latch and the door lock is broken, call us and we can replace it.

Yes, your washer and all other appliances will perform at their best if they are properly set up. If a washer is not level, it can cause parts and components to wear out before their time.

The warm water for your washer is a mixture of the hot and cold water from the water supply in your home. The temperature is dependent on how hot the hot is and how cold the cold is when they mix. If your hot water supply is turned down, or is located a long distance from your washer, the temperature may be cooler than expected. During the winter, your cold water supply may become very cold here in Canada. This will affect the end temperature.

It is possible that the water inlet valve may be restricted. This could be because there is sediment on the filter screen. Call us to help!

For a top loader, a general rule of thumb is to lay clothes loosely inside the washer until they reach the top of the agitator. For a front loader, fill it until it’s full, with minimal compression of the clothes.

You should scrape any excess food into your garbage disposal/disposer but it is not necessary to pre-rinse. Most modern dishwashers are designed for food particle removal. You do not need to rinse unless your dishes and cookware have been left sitting out for several hours. If that’s the case, you may need to soak them in soapy water to loosen up the dried food before loading into the dishwasher.

Here is the proper way to load it up!

Manufacturers recommend that cutlery be loaded with the part that touches the food facing upright. This allows for better water circulation around the cutlery. That being said, sharp knives and utensils should always face down to help prevent injury when unloading the dishwasher.

Dishes and cookware should have exposed surfaces facing the spray arms. Butcher type knives, silverware and other cutlery with wooden handles are best washed by hand.

Lower rack

  • Plates should lean toward the center near the spray arm
  • Cutting boards should be on the outside edges
  • Pots should be placed upside down

Upper rack

  • Plastic, glassware, mugs and cups. Make sure to leave space between them so that they do not get broken
  • Long utensils and knives should be placed flat in the upper rack

It seems that the powdered/granular detergents work best. The powder packs also work well as they are pre-measured.

Mike to the rescue! (again) 2nd time using his services- first a washer (still have) now older stove. Mike has a great knowledge of all brands of appliances, you can tell he cares. Diagnosed (in my case) over the phone. Punctual & completed the repair in a timely fashion. Fair rates - another satisfied customer! Would recommend Mike to all.

I called Mike to repair an aging wall mounted oven. We were about to move house and a condition of the sale was that I had to include a working oven. I had already been told by the "official'' repair guy that it couldn't be fixed (but of course still wanted his call out fee!). I asked Mike to have a 2nd look at it and if he couldn't repair it to at least pull it out and give me the exact measurements to ensure that I bought the right size (new) replacement, which of course would have been very expensive. Not only did Mike manage to repair it (he found a spare part) but he charged me a normal, very reasonable rate. He knew I was in a bind but he did not take advantage. In short he was knowledgeable (fixed it), fair in what he charged and totally trustworthy. I would have no hesitation in recommending Mike to others
